Story Recap and Review:
After its brilliant success in the first sequel, Assassin Creed 2 narrates the adventures of Ezio Auditore da Firenze; a nobleman of Renaissance master assassin. The game offers a glimpse of the Renaissance era in Italy, a shift away from the rigidity of the 3rd era into the more sophisticated and grotesque culture of Italians. With similar characters, the narrative bounces back and forth between past and present and of course a new plot that is sparked with a rich story along with a new world to roam and explore.
The main storyline is a follow-up of Demon Miles; only this time his memories circle around the life of a different ancestor, Ezio. The game offers a much more vibrant and vivid world unlike the gloomy atmosphere in the previous sequel. As aforementioned, the setting is situated in 15th / 16th Century Renaissance Italy with the sustainable conflict between Templars and Assassins looming heavily in the story.
We begin this tale with the rescue of Desmond by Lucy Stillman from confinement. She escorts him to the safe house where he encounters Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane. The team have constructed their personal version from the Animus utilizing the plans Lucy stole in an attempt to train Desmond as an assassin through the “Bleeding Effect”.
Fast forward to 7 years in Renaissance Italy, the narrative focuses with the adventures of Ezio. His father and brother have been unjustifiably and wrongly accused of treason and betrayal, and thus hanged. This drove Ezio to eliminate the culprit before he fled to Monteriggioni to reunite with his mother and sister. There, he meets with his uncle and discovers that his father and his uncle served within the Assassins’ Creed, therefore Ezio agrees to join and begins his training.
A change in narrative takes place as Ezio swore revenge; his objective is now to assassinate the men who wrongfully set out the execution of his father and brother. In short, anyone who is related to the Pazzi and Barbarigo families are to be eliminated.
In his search for the targets, Ezio happened to stumble upon the inventor Leonardo da Vinci who provided him with new equipment and upgrades for his gear. Traveling from city to city and until reaching Venice, the assassin discovers the identity of the Templar Grandmaster disguised as “The Spaniard” who is originally Rodrigo Borgia.
In an endeavour to unify Italy’s most influential families to the Templar Order, Rodrigo unveils his intention to open the vault, which is a chamber he believes to contain a force that is mightier than anything else in the world. He keeps the Apple in the hands of Ezio and escapes. Ezio is rewarded for his services with the admission into the Assassins’ creed.
